How it works
Enter your trip distance, your vehicle's fuel economy, and the price of fuel. The tool works out how much fuel the trip needs and multiplies by the price to estimate the cost. It supports both metric (km, litres per 100 km, price per litre) and imperial (miles, miles per gallon, price per gallon). A round-trip toggle doubles the distance. Currency formatting is configurable and all math runs locally in your browser.
cost = (distance / economy) × pricePerUnit
Common use cases
- Budgeting fuel for a road trip.
- Comparing the cost of two routes of different length.
- Estimating commuting fuel costs per week.
Frequently asked questions
Does it support both miles and kilometres?
Yes. Switch between imperial (miles, miles per gallon, price per gallon) and metric (kilometres, litres per 100 km, price per litre); the formula adjusts accordingly.
Can it calculate a round trip?
Yes. A round-trip toggle doubles the distance so you get the there-and-back cost in one step.
How accurate is the estimate?
It is as accurate as your inputs. Real consumption varies with traffic, terrain, speed, and load, so use your real-world economy figure for the best estimate.
