How it works
Several established formulas estimate ideal body weight from height and sex. This tool computes four of them — Devine, Robinson, Miller, and Hamwi — which each start from a base weight at five feet of height and add a fixed amount per inch above it. Because the formulas disagree slightly, showing all four gives a sensible range rather than a single false-precision number. Enter your height in metric or imperial and your sex; the math runs entirely in your browser.
Devine (male) = 50 kg + 2.3 kg × (inches over 5 ft)
Common use cases
- Getting a rough healthy-weight target range for your height.
- Comparing how different clinical formulas estimate ideal weight.
- Using alongside BMI to set a reasonable goal weight.
Frequently asked questions
Why show four different formulas?
No single ideal-weight formula is definitive, and they give slightly different numbers. Presenting Devine, Robinson, Miller, and Hamwi together produces a realistic range and avoids implying one exact correct weight.
Do these account for body frame or muscle?
No. They are based only on height and sex, so they do not reflect frame size, muscle mass, or body composition. A muscular person may exceed these numbers while being perfectly healthy.
Is this medical advice?
No. These are general estimates. For a target weight tailored to your health, talk to a doctor or dietitian.
